Club History

In the early 2000s, Riddle Point Rowing Association (RPRA) got started through the efforts of Kay and Rudy Fields, and then-IU Women's Rowing Coach, Mark Wilson. These intrepid founders were passionate about the sport and worked hard to make the club a reality.

At first, RPRA rowed out of the Indiana University Aquatic Center on Lake Lemon. RPRA was incorporated in 2006 and, in 2007, moved to its current location. Club members built the dock sections at the IU site and floated them along the lakeshore to the current location. At that time, the hillside site was leveled to make a space to park a boat trailer, where the club stored its boats for a number of years. Soon after the relocation, RPRA began planning to construct a boathouse in collaboration with the Boys and Girls Club of Bloomington. The club hosted an “erg-a-thon” to help raise money for construction. In 2015, RPRA dedicated the Art and Wilma Hill Boathouse at Camp Rock.

RPRA supports both recreational and competitive rowers. In the early years, the club sent teams to the Eagle Regatta at Eagle Creek Park in Indianapolis. Also in the early 2000s, the club hosted the LemonHead Regatta, which brought crews from around the midwest to compete on Lake Lemon. Later, RPRA sponsored a junior rowing program for high school-aged rowers.

Currently RPRA is a masters club for adult scullers of all ages. Depending on skill and preference, RPRA members row in quad, double, and single sculls, but we all share a love for rowing!
